section of the northern california coast. kron 4's charles clifford has details >>reporter: earlier today in washington the president gave a green light to the national oceanic and atmospheric adminstration, or noaa, to come up with a plan for expanding two of northern california's marine sanctuaries. let's take a look at a google earth map. this is a view of san francisco looking north across the city. to the west, off the marin coast is the gulf of the farallones national marine sanctuary seen herer in green. it covers more than 1200 square miles of ocean and includes the farallon islands and the waters around point rays. to the north is the cordell bank national marine sanctuary which includes more than 500 square nautical miles. now, under the proposed expansion the cordell sanctuary would be more than doubled in size, as would the farallones sanctuary which would be extended north to point arena in mendocino county. if approved the expanded sanctuaries would include more than 50 miles of coastline and protect more than 4500 square miles of ocean. northern california representat

chilly conditions for the overnight out-of-state and it will also start to sag into northern california. rainfall for tomorrow night. here's a look at futurecast. mostly clear conditions for the 8:00 hour on thursday. by 10:00 rules are round we will start to see rainfall approaching the north bay. even heavy near santa rosa, petaluma, and coping south of the golden gate by midnight. to the delta, moving south. and even by 2:00 hour along the south bay it is quick moving end lingering showers by wednesday morning. and late thursday. as for tomorrows temperatures? chilly. 67 in santa rosa, the fog in those locations in the same among the delta and possibly for the in the valleys. for the areas near the south bay, low 60s. but a bit cooler through the inland valleys. and along the east bay shore. clouds are expected to increase. we are seeing 50s. 56 degrees in napa. a quick look at your extended forecast with rainfall. and i tend and a lingering for wednesday morning spotty showers. thursday, friday, a bit of a dry out but the report turns for the weekend. gabe slate tech report here is a look at

as we take a look the satellite and radar showing through our northern california. take a look further towards washington you can see the blue indicating snowfall. cold air from canada of with this system. as we take a look at the rainfall for tonight. we will start at 8:00 p.m. and continue it is not that organized. heavier through petaluma, and the san mateo coast. by 5:00 p.m., still some showers but not that wide spread. it will continue for the afternoon. some spotty showers here, there in the 4:00 p.m. hour and into the 8:00 p.m. hour as for temperatures they're going to stay on the cool side. 50s through san francisco, 52 in san rafeal. 50s in san jose. the storm is a cold one we're going to look at the midnight hour. in full swing over the sierras it will continue for tomorrow. even for tomorrow we will see some inches of snowfall when everything is said and done at the higher elevations. 1 ft. at 7,000 ft.. high chance of lingering showers with the temperatures in the 30's. for the next several days. as we take a look at a local temperatures that rain will push through
